Fishing Report September 2024

Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 19ºC – 23ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is clear.

​

Water Level: 82.24%

​

Rainfall: 44mm

​

Other Conditions: The Dam level is decreasing as the Department of Water and Sanitation is currently busy with the annual water release, which started on 27th September and will end on 24th October, and will be dropping the level down to approximately 72.7%.

​

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the Dam. Just be careful of tree stumps and structures below the water.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 6.1kg. The largest one of 6.1kg was caught on sardine.

​

Total Tiger Fish: The number of Tiger Fish caught this month increased with an average of 475 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats, including some good sized fish. Sardines and chicken hearts continued to be the best bait. Trolling was also successful at times.

 

Other Species: A few Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.

Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red lures continued to be the best colours to use.

​

Important News: The winning fish of the Annual Tiger Fish Bonanza (710mm in length) was caught from Osprey 3 (PGR boat, with Sonnyboy as the Skipper).
