Fishing Conditions
Temp (River): Average of 20ºC – 24ºC
Water Clarity: The water is clear.
Water Level: 72.78%
Rainfall: 98mm
Other Conditions: The Dam level has dropped due to the annual water release from the Dam, which ended on 24th October. The water temperature is nice and warm which has resulted in excellent fishing.
Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the Dam. Just be careful of tree stumps and structures below the water.
Fish Caught
Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 6kg. The largest one of 6kg was caught on sardine.
Total Tiger Fish: The number of Tiger Fish caught this month increased again with an average of 769 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Some good quality fish have been caught and released this month. Sardines and chicken hearts was still the best bait, with trolling also proving successful. Live bait, chicken livers and spinners also worked well at times.
Other Species: Plenty Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish this month; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.
Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red lures are still proving to be the best colours to use.
