Fishing Conditions
Temp (River): Average of 20ºC – 25ºC

Water Clarity: The water is still nice and clear.
​
Water Level: 73.23%
​
Rainfall: 104mm
​
Other Conditions: The Dam level dropped by 10% due to the annual water release from the Dam. Hopefully we will have a good rain season this year to top the level up again. Despite this, Tiger Fishing has been good!

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam continue to be the best fishing spots. Just be careful of tree stumps with the decrease in the water level.
Fish Caught
Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 6.2kg. The largest one of 6.2kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: The fishing has been good, with an average of 917 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardine & chicken heart mix was the most successful bait during October. Trolling Rapala’s as well drop bait also worked well.
Barbel: A few Barbel and bream were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.
Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red Rapala’s
