Fishing Conditions                          

 

Temp (River): Average of 20ºC – 29ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is starting to clear, a bit murky in some places.

 

Water Level: 80.68%

 

Rainfall: 60.5mm

 

Other Conditions: The Dam level has stabilised a bit, the water coming into the Dam from the river has been balanced with the baseflow at the Dam wall.

 

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam.

Fish Caught

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 2.5kg. The largest one of2 .5kg was caught on sardine. The murky water that came into the Dam from the river influx has influenced the catch success, but this is expected to improve now that the water is starting to clear.

​

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 388 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardines, chicken livers, chicken hearts and spoons were the most successful methods used.  

​

Barbel: A few Barbel, as well as Silver Catfish, were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.

​

Lure Colour of the Month: None.
