Fishing Conditions
Temp (River): Average of 18ºC – 22ºC
Water Clarity: The water is still nice and clear.
Water Level: 84.42%
Rainfall: 0mm
Other Conditions: The Dam level dropped very slightly again! With the summer season on the way we can expect a rise in the Dam level, depending on whether we have a wet or dry summer cycle this season.
Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam continue to be the best fishing spots.
Fish Caught
Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4.2kg. The largest one of 4.2kg was caught on sardine, and shallower water continues to be the best areas to catch at the moment.
Total Tiger Fish: The fishing has been good, with an average of 206 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Trolling with Rapala’s turned out to be the most successful method during August. Sardines, chicken livers and chicken hearts also worked quite well.
Barbel: A few Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.
Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red Rapala’s
