Fishing Conditions                          

 

Temp (River): Average of 20ºC – 24ºC

​

Water Clarity: Murky in the river section due to influx of water from upstream, clear towards the main Dam.

 

Water Level: 75.69%

 

Rainfall: 61mm

 

Other Conditions: The Dam level is expected to rise again with the start of the rain season. Here is hoping for a great rain season ahead!

 

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the river where it enters the main Dam.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4.7kg. The largest one of 4.7kg was caught on sardine.

 

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 657 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Live bait, sardines, chicken livers and hearts worked really well, with some good success using spinners as well.

 

Barbel: Barbel, as well as Bream, were also caught while fishing for Tiger Fish, using sardine and chicken liver

 

Lure Colour of the Month: Silver.
