Fishing Conditions
Temp (River): Average of 19ºC – 23ºC

Water Clarity: The water is nice and clean.
​
Water Level: 86.56%
​
Rainfall: 29mm
​
Other Conditions: The Dam level has risen nicely again, providing good fishing spots.
​
Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the Dam continue to be the best fishing spots.
Fish Caught
Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 5.1kg. The largest one of 5.1kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: The fishing was again excellent during April, with an average of 918 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats, all catch and release as is our policy. Sardine and chicken heart cocktail proved to be the best bait. Chicken livers, spinners, live bait and trolling also worked well at times.
Other Species: A few good sized Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.

Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red Rapala’s worked well this month.

Important News: With the increased water level, the fishing is proving very successful with some great Tigers being Landed. Please note that we promote only catch and release of Tiger Fish, so that we can protect this great resource into the future.
