Fishing Conditions
Temp (River): Average of 19ºC – 22ºC
​
Water Clarity: The water is still murky in places due to the increased river inflow due to high rainfall in the catchment once again.
​
Water Level: 91.38%
​
Rainfall: 91.38%
​
Other Conditions: The Dam level did reach just over 100% during the month and overflowed at the Dam wall but decreased again as the Department of Water & Sanitation opened the sluice gates to release water.
​
Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the main Dam.
Fish Caught
Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 5kg. The largest one of 5kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 1957 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardine, chicken livers, chicken hearts and live bait proved to be the best bait to be used.
Other Species: A few Bream and Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine and chicken livers.

Lure Colour of the Month: Bright coloured lures also proved to be successful during the month.
​
Important News: Even with the increased inflow of water to the Dam, and slightly colder water temperatures, the fishing still proved to be great! Don’t miss out on a truly great experience on the water!
