Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 19ºC – 23ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is nice and clear.

​

Water Level: 94.91%

​

Rainfall: 0mm

​

Other Conditions: The Dam level is remaining relatively constant with the water temperatures increasing slightly. Indications are that the Department of Water & Sanitation are looking at implementing the annual water release around the end of October but is as yet unconfirmed.

​

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the main Dam.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4.05kg. The largest one of 4.05kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 338 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardine, chicken livers & chicken livers were the best bait methods. Trolling with Spinners and Rapalas also worked well.

​

Other Species: A few Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine and chicken livers.

​
