Fishing Report February 2024

Fishing Conditions

                          

Temp (River):  Average of 22ºC – 29ºC

Water Clarity: The water is settling in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge and is clear towards the mouth of the Dam.

Water Level: 81.88%

Rainfall: 19mm (February has been a dry month)

 

Other Conditions:  The Dam level has risen again slightly, with hot days and warm water temperatures.

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the Dam. Just be careful of tree stumps in the water.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4.8kg. The largest one of 4.8kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: The fishing was good during February, with an average of 978 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Drop bait was the bait of the month. Sardine, chicken hearts and chicken livers also worked well. Trolling with Rapala’s in clean water also worked well.

 

Barbel: A few Barbel and bream were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.

Lure Colour of the Month: Most colours worked well this month in clean water.

 

Important News: With hot days and warm water temperatures the fishing is excellent at the moment, so don’t miss out on these great conditions!
