Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 18ºC – 22ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is nice and clear.

​

Water Level: 95.71%

​

Rainfall: 3mm

​

Other Conditions: The Dam level is currently remaining relatively constant, although the Authorities will probably be planning the annual water release around the end of September / beginning October. We have not received confirmation of this as yet.

​

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the main Dam.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 3.8kg. The largest one of 3.8kg was caught on sardine.

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 498 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardine, chicken livers, chicken hearts and live bait continue to be the best bait methods. Trolling with Spinners and Rapalas also worked well.

​

Other Species: Some Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine and chicken livers.
