Fishing Report June 2024

Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 16ºC – 19ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is nice and clean.

​

Water Level: 85.31%

​

Rainfall: 19mm

​

Other Conditions: The Dam level is remaining stable. The water temperature continues to drop, but the fishing is still good!

​

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the Dam.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 5kg. The largest one of 5kg was caught on sardine.

​

Total Tiger Fish: The fishing continued to be successful during June, albeit less fish caught as is the norm this time of the year, with an average of 137 Tiger Fish caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardines and chicken hearts continued to be the best bait. Chicken livers, spinners and live bait also worked well.

 

Other Species: A few Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine, chicken livers and chicken hearts.

Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Red lures continued to be the most successful colours.

​
