Fishing Report June 2026

Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 18ºC – 20ºC

Water Clarity: The water is relatively clear. 

Water Level: 84.75%

Rainfall: 22mm

Other Conditions: The Water level has dropped slightly since last month. The water temperature is colder, which is expected this time of the year.

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2-8m and towards the mouth of the main Dam. Be careful of tree stumps just below the water surface.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 4.7kg. The largest one of 4.7kg was caught on sardine. Less fish were caught this month due to the colder water temperatures but there were still a few nice ones caught.

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 93 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. The best baits continue to be sardine, chicken livers & chicken hearts. There was some success trolling with spinners.

Other Species: A few Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish using sardine and chicken livers.

Lure Colour of the Month: Orange and Green remained the most successful colours.

Important News: Despite less Tiger Fish being caught there were still some nice fish brought to the boat. Don’t miss out on a great experience on the water. Winter fishing will put your skills to the test!
