Fishing Report March 2025

Fishing Conditions    

                     

Temp (River): Average of 20ºC – 24ºC

​

Water Clarity: The water is still murky in places due to the increase in the river inflow.

​

Water Level: 92.90%

​

Rainfall: 48mm

​

Other Conditions: Despite receiving 48mm on the Reserve during the month, plenty of rain fell in the catchment resulting in the Dam level increasing even further.

​

Fishing Area: From Mpalane Bay, Crocodile Bay towards the railway bridge, in front of Nkwazi Lake Lodge, Pump Station, the bay as you pass the KZN Wildlife campsites, Elephant Bay in 2 - 8m of water and towards the mouth of the main Dam.

 

Fish Caught

 

Tiger Fish Sizes: Tiger Fish caught during the month ranged from 1kg – 6.1kg. The largest one of 6.1kg was caught on sardine (A great specimen of a fish!).

Total Tiger Fish: An average of 2493 Tiger Fish were caught off the Pongola Game Reserve boats. Sardine, chicken livers and hearts and live bait were the best baits to use during March.

 

Other Species: A few Bream and Barbel were caught while fishing for Tiger Fish; using sardine and chicken livers.

​

Lure Colour of the Month: Orange a green lures had some success during the month.

​

Important News: Fishing proved to be excellent this mean (shown by the good number of fish caught off our boats during March. Book now and don’t miss out!
